How would baroque music sound if it also included some of today's instruments, especially electric guitar? Hopefully my new CD, Baroque Concerti on Electric Guitar, answers this question. I will use my recording minus the solo for accompaniment at my Back Stage at the Border appearance and will also toss in some cello solos and rock songs. CDs will be available for $10 and also online at CD Baby, iTunes or Amazon.

"What The Chelm!"

~What the Chelm, based in Bellingham, Washington, has performed since 1993 in Whatcom and Skagit counties, in Everett, Tacoma, and Seattle, as well as Idaho, Minnesota, and Canada. The band has recorded three CD’s: “What the Chelm!”, “Oy, They’re Back!”, and in 2010 "Til Chelm Freezes Over".! Klezmer music has its roots in the towns and cities of eastern Europe. Klezmer bands played and sang at celebrations, drawing on traditional tunes as well as the compelling dance rhythms, gypsy and other,of the countries where they lived. The result is world music that is kinetic, high energy, infectious, and eminently danceable.! In the klezmer spirit of creative borrowing, What the Chelm also performs music of Israel, favorites of the Yiddish theater and of the general Yiddish repertoire, Ladino (Spanish/Hebrew) songs from present and past Sephardic Jewish communities of the Iberian Peninsula, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean, and an occasional show tune classic bearing a tinge ofthe Jewish music idiom, as well as swing tunes.! Tap your feet, savor the flavor, and if you feel the urge to move about or dance, don’t stifle it!

Kate has spent her musical years as a welcome member of the most respected songwriter circles in Nashville and Los Angeles. Known for her remarkable voice and songs that are full of passion and honesty, Kate has been the New Folk winner at both the Napa Folk Festival and the Sierra Folk Festival. She has been a main stage performer at the Kerrville Folk Festival since 1993, and has played most of the great clubs throughout the country such as the Bluebird Café in Nashville, the Troubadour in Los Angeles, Club Passim in Boston and Fiddler’s Green in Atlanta. Kate has produced, recorded and released five CDs: “Kate Wallace” on the Honest label (from which came three music videos that were in steady rotation); “Two Lane America”, “Too Long From the Sea” and “Politics and Religion” on her own New Pair O’ Dimes label. She’s had her songs recorded by famous and infamous artists alike, recorded sound tracks for major movies, been featured in two different books on songwriters, been on numerous television shows including Music City Tonight, she’s won the Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award for her song “Going Through the Emotions”, the West Coast Songwriter Award for “Dry as the Desert” and the Nashville Songwriters Award for “A Friend Like That”. Every year, a tree comes from one of the 50 states to be "The People’s Tree", lighted at the Capitol Building. In 2011, the tree was chosen from California (not since 1995), and it was a fine honor to have the song selected. You can hear it on iTunes. She lives in Santa Barbara, CA, these days, where she continues to travel & play, write, record, teach and generally experience/ pass on the joy of music in every way. She also books the popular acoustic music series, Trinity Backstage. Kate is sponsored by and happily plays ELIXIR strings. Kate's 5th CD, Ruby Slippers, has just been released and is now available.

Quickdraw String Band

~Emerging from the acoustic string band tradition, Quickdraw String Band plays a repertoire of Old-Time, Early Bluegrass, Country Blues, and Ragtime. Experienced and hard working, they have been performing around Whatcom County off and on for the past twelve years. Their energetic approach and innovative interpretations, vocally and instrumentally, make it obvious to see how Quickdraw has become one of the most distinctive acts around Whatcom County. Their style often defies categorization into any singular genre, but is solidly grounded in acoustic tradition. This is exactly what makes them unique. It is the strong and varying backgrounds of all four members that make the combination so intriguing. Their sound consists of various configurations of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, dobro, vocals, and bass.

In 1983 Ritchie was one of two dozen songwriters featured on a regionally best-selling compilation album produced by radio station KEZX-FM and he soon began to tour further afield. His second recording, Changing Of The Guard, followed, and with it Ritchie's first national tour. Songwriting awards accumulated: a two-time finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Folk contest; top honors from the Napa Valley (CA), Sisters (OR) and Jubilee (CO) Folk Festival songwriting competitions; the only double-showcase songwriter in 2001 and again in 2005 at the Walnut Valley Festival's New Artist Showcase in Kansas, and a 2005 finalist at the Mountain Stage Newsong Festival. He won the Snowbird Music Festival (UT) contest and was invited back as a main stage headliner in 2009. three more CDs have followed, 1995's Homeground, 2001's My Father's Wildest Dream and his most recent, 2009's Wild Horses..

Releasing her 5th original CD, "between the rocks and stars", Seattle-based Bellingham-bred singer-songwriter JEAN MANN dazzles the masses with her jazzy, vocal-driven neo-folk style playing, on tenor and acoustic guitars and ukulele.

NYC's Sonya Heller opens the concert. Performed in exquisite church acoustics, well worth the trek to Blaine. Recorded in Seattle's iconic Studio Litho (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) co produced by Alicia Healey
